Secret Neighbor review
Secret Neighbor is a multiplayer game that takes place between the first and second acts of Hello Neighbor. TinyBuild released the game by Hologryph and Dynamic Pixels on October 23, 2019. A co-op horror action game developed in a 1st person perspective, Secret Neighbor, is an intermediate chapter between the first and second episodes of Hello Neighbor that tells a completely new story.
A group of children tries to enter the basement of a suspicious neighbor to rescue their missing friend. The only problem is that one of the guys is not who he claims to be but a disguised neighbor. His task is to win the trust of other players and betray them. The kids will win if they can get to the basement.
Before the start of the match, all players choose one of six characters. Each character has a unique skill: for example, the leader can temporarily speed up all the children within the radius around him, and the scout carries with him a slingshot that can scare off the enemy. The Neighbor, in turn, not only possesses great strength but also knows how to set traps, disguise himself as a child, and throw smoke bombs. In general, Neighbour tries to harm the kids in every possible way.
The game location is a huge multi-story building with many locked doors, inconspicuous rooms, and hiding places. The main goal of the children is the basement door hung with six locks, and to open it, they will have to examine the entire mansion. The keys' location is randomly generated, so you need to look into every drawer and cabinet. In the first match, it seems like an impossible task, but considering that the mansion always remains the same, you will gradually remember the plans of all floors and navigate without any problems.
The Neighbor has his problems: he is too strong. This is literally beating of children: catching a child is easy, and in order not to reveal himself ahead of time, you can throw objects at your opponent, weaken him, and then take him, prisoner.
Another negative feature of Secret Neighbor is the community. Entering the match, you run the risk of bumping into players constantly shouting into the microphone, players attacking teammates for no reason, players immediately falling into the hands of a Neighbor. In general, all kinds of players, except those who want to win.
However, this is a problem for any multiplayer project, not just this one.
For comfort gaming, you need:
- Windows 7,8,10;
- Processor: i5;
- 6 GB RAM;
- 5 GB HDD;
- Graphics: GTX 770 or higher.
Should you play Secret Neighbor? It depends on how much you like social asymmetric horror games, where the result of the match depends on teamwork. In the game, you can have good fun with a company of friends, but races with random players can seem boring, and the presence of bugs and imbalance of the sides suggests that the developers should still work on it.
- Fun gameplay when played with friends;
- Many tactics for both sides.
- Unbalanced characters;
- Localization bugs and flaws;
